Catalyst

When Chemtool approached us, the assignment seemed straightforward: create a premium toolkit experience to support the launch of several new product offerings.

The objective, however, extended far beyond introducing a product. Chemtool wanted to shift perceptions from a company known primarily for manufacturing expertise to one recognized as a proactive partner and industry leader. The experience needed to create excitement, spark conversation, and reinforce the value Chemtool could bring to its customers beyond the products themselves.

What began as a customer toolkit ultimately evolved into something much larger: a branded platform designed to generate engagement and curiosity.

What’s in a Name?

One of the earliest challenges was naming the experience.

The program was envisioned as an exclusive destination for Chemtool’s customers. A place where new products, insights, and opportunities would be introduced before reaching the broader market. It needed to feel premium, memorable, and distinct from traditional product marketing.

Our naming explorations focused on themes of movement, momentum, innovation, and transformation.

Names like Momenta emphasized collective progress. Fluid Horizon pointed toward innovation and future possibilities. Kinetik captured motion and energy. Each represented a different interpretation of the same underlying idea: helping customers move forward.

While each direction offered something compelling, they also helped clarify what the experience ultimately needed to become.

Finding the Right Catalyst

The strongest naming solutions aren’t just a description, they establish a point of view.

Among the options explored, Catalyst stood apart because it spoke to both the industry and the ambition behind the initiative. In chemistry, a catalyst accelerates change. Strategically, it represented exactly what Chemtool hoped the experience would accomplish: generate new energy, create new opportunities, and drive meaningful progress for customers and partners.

Beyond a Campaign

As the project evolved, it became clear that the identity needed to support much more than a single launch.

The system would live across physical toolkits, digital experiences, communications, promotional items, and future product introductions. It needed to be flexible enough to accommodate new content while remaining recognizable and cohesive over time.

That realization influenced every subsequent design decision. Rather than creating assets for a single application, the focus became creating a foundation that could grow.

Tinkering with the Process

Projects rarely move in a straight line.

What begins as one idea often becomes something different as new opportunities emerge and the problem becomes more clearly defined. Catalyst is a reflection of that process.

The final platform wasn’t the result of a single breakthrough. It emerged through exploration, discussion, refinement, and a willingness to challenge initial assumptions. The name, identity, and experience evolved together, each helping define what Catalyst could become.

In the end, the project wasn’t simply about launching products. It was about creating a platform capable of accelerating conversations, relationships, and innovation across an entire industry.
